Biographical Sketch
Gustavo Rincon, MD, is a Staff Cardiologist in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Section of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He specializes in cardiac catheterization and angiography, clinical cardiology, clinical pharmacology in cardiac failure and cardiac transplantation.
Dr. Rincon is a native of Colombia, South America. He attended the National University in Bogota, Colombia, where he received his medical degree. He completed internships at Palmira Hospital in Valle, Colombia, and at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Conn. His clinical training residencies were taken at National University Hospital in Bogota in pathology, at A. Shaoio Foundation in Bogota in internal medicine and at Youngstown Hospital in Ohio and Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago in internal medicine. His residencies were followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease from Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in 1972 as a Staff Cardiologist.
His research studies, where he has often served as principal or co-investigator, have focused on various therapies for heart failure and outcomes of cardiac transplantation. He has been involved in the ESCAPE study on the effectiveness of pulmonary artery catheterization in cases of congestive heart failure, and he is Principal Investigator in the ESSENTIAL Studies of Oral Enoximone Therapy in Advanced Heart Failure, to name a few of Dr. Rincon's numerous research studies.
He is author or co-author of articles on his specialty interests in leading medical journals such as Circulation, American Journal of Cardiology and the American Journal of Transplantation.
Dr. Rincon is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the Society of Cardiac Angioplasty and Intervention, the International Society of Heart/Lung Transplantation and the Heart Failure Society of America.
