Biography

About M. Gregory Bourdakos, MD

Gregory Bourdakos, MD, is a cardiac anesthesiologist in the Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He specializes in cardiothoracic anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

A native of Oklahoma, Dr. Bourdakos received his medical degree from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine in Athens, Greece. He completed his internship in family medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio, and his residency in internal medicine at St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh.

He took his anesthesiology residency and clinical training in advanced pain management and advanced cardiovascular anesthesia at Meridia Huron Hospital in Cleveland, where he received the Rolland J. Whitacre Award. This was followed by a Critical Care Anesthesia Fellowship from Cleveland Clinic, where he became Chief Resident in Anesthesiology. Dr. Bourdakos was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic in 1999 as a staff anesthesiologist in the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center.

Prior to his appointment at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Bourdakos was an emergency room physician at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, St. Francis Medical Center and South Side Hospital in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. He also served as a staff anesthesiologist at St. Alexis Hospital Medical Center and Meridia Huron Hospital, both in Cleveland.

Dr. Bourdakos co-authored a chapter on “The association between postoperative hypothermia and adverse outcome following CABG” in a medical textbook on coronary artery disease, and he has published several articles/abstracts on his specialty interests.

Dr. Bourdakos is a member of the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, the International Trauma and Critical Care Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and the American Medical Association.
