Biography

About Miriam Perez, MD

Miriam K Perez, MD, is a staff Pediatrician with Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, Department of Community Pediatrics. In addition to her clinical appointment, Dr Perez is actively involved with the education of medical students and pediatric residents. Dr Perez is very passionate about community health issues, and she is an advocate to eliminating barriers disproportionally affecting the hispanic population in terms of access, health literacy, outcomes and outreach. She is currently involved with the development of a bilingual and culturally competent clinic to serve pediatric patients at Lutheran Hospital; as part of an an effort to combat health disparities in the Latino community. Dr Perez is one of the founders of ACTiVHOS, the first fully bilingual youth directed health and wellness program in Northeast Ohio, a community base effort to lower the rates of childhood obesity and asthma.

 Through the years, Dr. Perez has been either principal investigator or co-investigator in numerous research studies and has published in peer-reviewed journals such are American Journal of Pediatrics. Pediatrics in Review, Consultant for Pediatricians, Immunology and Allergy Clinics of North America, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Current Opinion in Pharmacology among others.

Dr. Perez is board certified in general pediatrics. She earned her medical degree from Universidad del Norte, in her native Barranquilla, Colombia. Her post-graduate training includes a pediatric internship and residency at Pediatric University Hospital, University of Puerto Rico Medical School/Medical Science Campus. She completed her pediatric training  in 1999 and was awarded best Pediatric Resident of her graduating class.

Dr. Perez is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, and The American Board of Medical Specialties. She has contributed research abstracts and presentations at International professional meetings Including The Nemacolin International Asthma Conference, and the Cleveland Clinic Obesity Summit.

Dr Perez specialty interests include general pediatrics, newborn care, respiratory infections, dermatological problems, childhood obesity, asthma, bronchiolitis, and allergic disorders.
