About Jeffrey Cummings, MD

Jeffrey L. Cummings, MD, ScD, is Director, ClevelandClinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, Nevada and Cleveland,Ohio.  He is the Camille and Larry RuvoChair of the Neurological Institute of Cleveland Clinic and Professor ofMedicine (Neurology), Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of CaseWestern Reserve University.  

Dr. Cummings is a world-renowned Alzheimer’sresearcher and leader of clinical trials. He has been recognized for his research and leadership contributions inthe field of Alzheimer’s disease through the Henderson Award of the AmericanGeriatrics Society (2006), the Research Award of the John Douglas FrenchAlzheimer’s Research Foundation (2008), and the Ronald and Nancy ReaganResearch Award of the national Alzheimer’s Association (2008). In 2010, he washonored by the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry with theirDistinguished Scientist Award.  In 2011,he was awarded a Doctor of Science by his Alma mater, University of Wyoming.  He was featured in the Gentleman’s Quarterly(June 2009) as a “Rockstar of Science.”  

Dr. Cummings is interested in clinical trials,developing new therapies for brain diseases, and the interface of neuroscienceand society.

Dr. Cummings completed Neurology residencyand a Fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at Boston University, Boston,Massachusetts.  US training was followedby a Research Fellowship in Neuropathology and Neuropsychiatry at the NationalHospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square, London, England. Dr. Cummings wasformerly Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at UCLA, director of the Mary S.Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research at UCLA, and director of theDeane F. Johnson Center for Neurotherapeutics at UCLA. He is past president ofthe Behavioral Neurology Society and of the American NeuropsychiatricAssociation.  Dr. Cummings has authored or edited 39 books and published over 650peer-reviewed papers.
