Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment

New Treatment Option Helps Athletes Avoid Surgery

Athletes whose tendon, muscle or ligament injuries do not respond to conservative treatment have a new option to consider before resorting to surgery. Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®) accelerates the natural healing of soft-tissue injuries.

EPAT® is best suited for active individuals with chronic, painful tendonitis. Completely noninvasive, it delivers sound waves in pulses from a devise positioned at the injury site. It is the most advanced and highly effective noninvasive treatment method approved by the FDA.

Three to five sessions (not yet covered by insurance) are typically required.

Shock waves stimulate healing

Delivering intense energy pulses to the inflamed area causes local micro-damage to the area that promotes a healing response. It can even break down calcium deposits.

What disorders can be treated?

Generally acute or chronic muscle pain and/or tendon insertional pain:

  • Neck
  • Shoulder
  • Back and chest
  • Upper extremity
  • Lower extremity
  • Foot and ankle
  • Myofascial trigger points
What are the possible side effects?

EPAT® has nearly no risks or side effects. You will feel a pulsing, which can cause some discomfort because it is over an inflamed area, but it is minor.
