The department of Radiation Oncology provides a number of specialized services designed to facilitate treatment and improve quality of life for patients with cancer, whether they are undergoing brachytherapy programs or any of our cancer treatment methods.

These services provided during brachytherapy programs and radiotherapy include:

Oncology nurses

The department maintains its own staff of nurses who have had special training in the care of patients receiving radiation treatments.

Social worker

The department employees a social worker with special expertise in oncology issues.

Transportation assistance

The department runs a van service for patients who would otherwise have serious difficulty in getting to the clinic for treatment.

Local housing

In cases where patients live too far away for daily commutes, the department can assist in the location of local housing arrangements.

Nutrition counseling

Proper nutrition is important in fighting disease. The department offers help and information to assure that a patient's nutrition is proper.

Support groups

It often helps for a patient and/or their family to be in contact with others having similar medical/family problems or who have been through brachytherapy programs or radiotherapy treatment before. The department facilitates contact amongst patients/families and support groups.
