Linnea N. VanBlarcum, MSN, RN, ACNS-BC, is a clinical nurse specialist in medical-surgical nursing at Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital. Delivering both direct and indirect patient care, VanBlarcum is a compassionate caregiver, well-versed consultant and trusted clinical resource for several medical-surgical and behavioral health units. She is experienced in the development and implementation of clinical care paths and evidence-based practice methods, with additional expertise in health system policy and procedure. VanBlarcum’s clinical background is strongly comprised of more than 30 years in medical-surgical nursing.
VanBlarcum began her career in 1981 as a critical care clinical nurse specialist at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio, where she also held positions as director of nursing education and director of medical-surgical nursing. After 10 years with St. Joseph, VanBlarcum accepted and effectively fulfilled clinical nurse specialist positions throughout notable Cleveland-based healthcare organizations, such as MetroHealth Medical Center, Parma Community General Hospital, Mt. Sinai Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital. In 2002, VanBlarcum joined Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio, as a pulmonary disease management coordinator. She accepted her current position in 2008. VanBlarcum is an avid educator, mentor and preceptor for numerous area schools of nursing, including Ursuline College, Kent State University and The University of Akron.

VanBlarcum participates in numerous health system councils and committees as she works to bring added value to her nursing and healthcare colleagues. She serves as a co-chairperson for the Cleveland Clinic health system policy and procedure committee as she is extremely knowledgeable in evidence-based practice protocols for pulmonary and neurological diseases, as well as general medical-surgical nursing. She coordinates the skin care resource nurse program for Lutheran Hospital and is an active participant on the shared governance practice council.
VanBlarcum’s clinical expertise lies within the areas of medical-surgical nursing, with a special focus in pulmonary disease management.
VanBlarcum’s rich history in higher education includes seven years with the Medical College of Ohio at Bowling Green State University. Throughout her affiliation with Bowling Green, she fulfilled roles as a clinical preceptor, an assistant professor, and a volunteer faculty member. Additionally, VanBlarcum currently serves as a preceptor for graduate students from the following institutions:
