This type of surgery involves less trauma to the patient than a traditional operation. U.S. News's Dr. Bernadine Healy and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. A. Marc Gillinov moderate live robotically assisted, minimally invasive mitral valve heart surgery. Performing the surgery is Dr. Tomislav Mihaljevic who specializes in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, robotically-assisted cardiac surgery, valve repair and replacement, image-guided surgery and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.
