4th Annual Patient and Family Thanksgiving Celebration


This year G111 and G110 had their 4th Annual Patient and Family Thanksgiving celebration. The event has grown every year since a group of nurses brought the tradition up from G70 in 2009. Nearly 150 patients and family members enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner right here at Taussig.

Welcome Dr. Jagadeesh!


Dr. Jagadeesh joins us after completing a hematology/oncology fellowship and internal medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She received her medical degree at the JJMM Medical College at the University of Mysore in India. She obtained her MPH from Boston University School of Public Health and continued her studies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with a research emphasis in hereditary breast and colon cancer. At Taussig, Dr. Jagadeesh will focus on the management and clinical investigation of lymphoma and blood and marrow transplantation.


Bernadette's Story


An Erie woman treated at Taussig reflects on her experience an as aplastic anemia patient saved by a bone marrow transplant. Her story takes an interesting twist just four years later when she has the opportunity to bring awareness to the disease on the runway at Mercedes Benz fashion week.

Dr. Kalaycio discussed the pros and cons of Umbilical Cord Blood Preservation and Stem Cell collection. He addressed the question of whether or not it is a good idea for parents, babies, and UCB collection companies.

He has been published in numerous scientific publications including Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Leukemia. He also is the editor of a book on leukemia and co-editor of a book on clinical malignant hematology. His research interests focus on testing new treatments for leukemia.

Dunk Tank Raises Money for Hope Lodge

On Sunday, August 26th, The Blood and Marrow Transplant Program hosted an employee picnic featuring food, a corn hole tournament, volleyball, kids’ games, and best of all - a dunk tank for charity! The BMT Staff and Administrators participated in the fun. Dunkees included Dr. Matthew Kalaycio (Director), Dr. Ronald Sobecks, Dr. Robert Dean, Julie Curtis (BMT Administrator), Mary Serafin (BMT Clinical Manager), Sheila Serafino (BMT Accreditation and Quality Manager), and Shawnda Tench (BMT Research Manager). Ticket sales from the dunk tank totaled $500, which was presented to Hope Lodge on September 13th.


A healthy Father's Day for Cleveland-area father and son who take on cancer, win


Within days of Tom finishing up treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma in August 2009, L.T., Tom's son, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Both have completed their treatment and are looking forward to playing together in a golf tournament in July.
