Cisplatin-Based Chemotherapy and/or Surgery in Treating Young Patients With Adrenocortical Tumor

Study:

Treatment of Adrenocortical Tumors With Surgery Plus Lymph Node Dissection and Multiagent Chemotherapy: A Groupwide Phase III Study

Rationale:

Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells. Giving chemotherapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving it after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery.

Purpose:

This phase III clinical trial is studying how well cisplatin-based chemotherapy and/or surgery works in treating young patients with stage I, stage II, stage III or stage IV adrenocortical cancer.
