Overview
The Pulmonary Vascular Program in the Department of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is comprised of a team of 5 Pulmonary and Critical Care physicians, two advanced practice nurses, two research nurse coordinators, and research fellows. We have a close collaboration with cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and lung transplantation. Two of our physicians also serve on the lung transplantation selection committee.
Being at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic allows us to draw on the expertise of strong programs in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, lung transplantation, hepatology, liver transplantation, sleep medicine, and rheumatology. We have active clinical and research programs in all types of pulmonary hypertension including idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) previously known as primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH), chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), portopulmonary hypertension, and pulmonary hypertension associated with scleroderma spectrum of diseases and other connective tissue diseases.
Patient Care- Patients First
All our physicians and nurses have special expertise and interest in Pulmonary Hypertension and are dedicated to the evaluation and care of pulmonary hypertension patients. We evaluate an average of 10-15 new PAH patients per month. All new and difficult cases are discussed in our weekly group meeting. Our patients are on various therapies including epoprostenol (Flolan), treprostinil (Remodulin), bosentan (Tracleer), sildenafil (Viagra, Revatio), ambrisentan (Letairis), and calcium channel blockers. Many patients are on combination therapy.
Research
We have several ongoing investigator-initiated research projects aimed at understanding the pathophysiology of pulmonary hypertension. We also participate in several multicenter clinical trials evaluating new therapies.
Education
We offer elective 2-4 week rotations that include clinical and/or research experience for residents, pulmonary fellows, cardiology fellows, and community physicians who want to learn more about pulmonary hypertension.
For further information, to schedule an appointment with one of our physicians, or to inquire about ongoing research projects, clinical trials, or educational opportunities, please call or e-mail one of our nurses listed below.
