Cleveland Clinic is one of two organizations that will provide programs for area residents at the newly renovated Langston Hughes Center, which opens this Saturday at East 79th Street and Quincy Avenue in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood.
The renovation and expansion of the historic former Langston Hughes library branch will serve as a community wellness center for residents of all ages. Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation led the renovation project, providing a new home for Senior Outreach Services (SOS) and furthering collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, the largest Fairfax employer. With a commitment from Cleveland Clinic as well as external support, Fairfax was able to renovate the building and offer upgraded space for SOS.
Starting in March at the Langston Hughes Center, Cleveland Clinic will provide preventive care and basic health screening services, health information on seminars for topics such as chronic disease management and nutrition, as well as community health navigation support, a service that assists community members needing medical care find a medical home for treatment. The center will be staffed by Cleveland Clinic staff nurses, physicians and residents.
Senior Outreach Services offers residents a variety of educational, cultural and wellness programs such as art and music therapy as well as instructor-led fitness and line dancing courses. The organization also prepares more than 400 meals daily for seniors, delivering to homes and serving lunch at the Langston Hughes Center.
