Cleveland businessman Carl D. Glickman and his wife, Babs, longtime friends of The Cleveland Clinic, are contributing $8 million to the Clinic’s Urological Institute to support its mission of worldwide excellence in patient care, teaching and research. The institute will be renamed the Glickman Urological Institute of The Cleveland Clinic in recognition of the Glickmans’ generosity.
“Carl Glickman has been a Cleveland Clinic patient for 25 years and a leadership donor in each of the foundation’s last four fundraising campaigns. The commitment that he and his wife have shown toward The Cleveland Clinic is humbling,” said Andrew C. Novick, M.D., chairman of The Cleveland Clinic Urological Institute. “The Glickmans’ generous gift will support our efforts to learn even more and improve treatment in all areas of urology.”
As a result of the Glickmans’ past contributions, a new pediatric dialysis facility will open next fall at The Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. Mr. Glickman has been known to buy toys to help entertain young dialysis patients during their care. In recognition for all of his unwavering support of the Clinic, Mr. Glickman also has been made a Distinguished Fellow for Life of The Cleveland Clinic.
A well-known Cleveland businessman, Mr. Glickman currently serves as a director of Bear Stearns Companies Inc. and Lexington Corporate Properties Trust.
With a staff of 51 physicians and scientists, The Cleveland Clinic Urological Institute is recognized worldwide for excellence. In 2001, the Institute performed 12,000 surgical procedures and recorded more than 65,000 outpatient visits. Every year since 1990, U.S.News & World Report has ranked the Urological Institute as the best in Ohio and one of the top five urology departments in the nation. For the past three years, the Urological Institute has been ranked second in the United States.
