Two Pediatric Programs Ranked Top Ten in the Nation
June 11, 2013
Cleveland Clinic Children's has been recognized as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its 2013-14 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals.”
Cleveland Clinic Children’s earned national rankings in seven specialties, with two rated among the top 10 in the country. The hospital’s Neurology & Neurosurgery program ranked 8th in the country and its Gastroenterology program was ranked 10th best. The hospital also ranked nationally in Cancer; Cardiology & Heart Surgery; Diabetes & Endocrinology; Pulmonology; and Urology.
“It’s a great accomplishment to be recognized among the top children’s hospitals in the country,” said Giovanni Piedimonte, MD, Chair of Cleveland Clinic Children’s. “We’re dedicated to growing our services across all specialties and throughout the region so we can continue delivering world-class care to our children.”
In 2012, Cleveland Clinic Children’s expanded its Bone Marrow Transplant Program, with the addition of new, high-tech patient rooms. The hospital also focused on pediatric obesity in 2012, expanding research, programs and education, and launching the b.Well Kids’ Clinic — a multidisciplinary program dedicated to pediatric wellness.
To gather data, U.S. News used two surveys: a clinical questionnaire sent to 179 pediatric hospitals and 1,500 physicians, and a reputational assessment of 150 pediatric specialists. Those surveyed were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside location and expense.
The full rankings and methodology are available at http://www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals. The rankings will also be published in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, which will be available August 27.
