Community Event July 16 Features Tours, Health Screenings and Refreshments

July 15, 2011

Cleveland Clinic will celebrate the opening of its new $96 million Twinsburg Family Health & Surgery Center July 16 with a community health fair and open house.

The new 190,000-square-foot center, located on Route 91 just south of I-480, will bring approximately 300 jobs to Twinsburg. The project will generate more than $900,000 in state and local payroll taxes. The center’s emergency department opened July 11 and the Family Health Center opens July 25.

The Twinsburg Family Health and Surgery Center is Cleveland Clinic’s first family health center with a 24-hour emergency department and helipad. Another distinctive feature of the center is the numerous specialty services which will be offered in the new facility. More than 35 different types of specialty care will be provided at the center, including everything from allergy specialists to vascular surgeons.

“Part of putting ‘Patients First’ is providing state-of-the art facilities in a convenient location,” said Cynthia Deyling, MD, Chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Regional Operations. “We see the center as a one-stop-shop for patients’ medical needs. Our patients can see a primary care physician or specialist, come to the Emergency Department when needed or pick up a prescription at our on-site pharmacy.”

The center will allow residents to receive the care they need closer to home and builds on the services Cleveland Clinic has been providing in Twinsburg.

“The Family Health and Surgery Center features a wide variety of specialty services and an outpatient surgery center,” said Richard Kratche, MD, the center’s Medical Director. “It will enhance our ability to provide world class healthcare to Summit, Geauga, Cuyahoga and Portage counties.”

Throughout the planning and construction, Cleveland Clinic has worked closely with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers to preserve the natural habitat on its grounds. More than 37 acres of the 86-acre site will be protected.

In addition, Cleveland Clinic will be applying for LEED certification for the Twinsburg center because of its environmentally-friendly features, which include low-flow plumbing fixtures and sensors to turn off faucets and lights when they are not being used, as well as the wetlands preservation.

Cleveland Clinic has set aside space in the center for a regional dispatch center for Twinsburg and surrounding communities.
