Glickman Family Gives Cleveland Clinic An Additional $3 Million For Its Urological Institute

12/04/2006

Cleveland businessman Carl D. Glickman and his wife, Babs, longtime friends of Cleveland Clinic, are giving an additional $3 million to the hospital’s Urological Institute in support of the institute’s mission of worldwide excellence in patient care, teaching and research.

The gift adds to $9 million the Glickmans gave previously toward the construction on a state-of-the-art building on Cleveland Clinic’s main campus which will house the Glickman Urological Institute and new initiatives.

“This is an exciting time for our Glickman Urological Institute program, which is currently ranked among the top two programs in the United States,” said Andrew C. Novick, M.D., Chairman of the Glickman Urological Institute. “Our expanding clinical and academic activities reflect the excellence and dedication of our physician staff. This additional support from Carl and Babs Glickman is inspiring and assures that our program will maintain its pre-eminent position in the field for many years to come”.

A prominent businessman, Mr. Glickman serves as director of Bear Stearns Companies, Inc. and Lexington Corporate Properties Trust.  He and his wife have given generously to Cleveland Clinic throughout the years. Their past contributions resulted in the opening of a new pediatric dialysis facility at Cleveland Clinic’s Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. Mr. Glickman has been honored as a Distinguished Fellow for Life of Cleveland Clinic in recognition of his unwavering support.

The new Glickman Pavilion will be located adjacent to the Clinic’s new heart center, currently under construction. Named after Cleveland businessman Carl D. Glickman and his wife, Babs, the Glickman Pavilion will comprise more than 200,000 square feet designed to provide for future expansion. The Glickman Urological Institute will occupy the building’s top floors together with the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension. The Pavilion will also house several new programs to be determined.

The Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological Institute is recognized worldwide for excellence in patient care, teaching and research. Every year since 1990, U.S.News & World Report has ranked the Glickman Urological Institute the best in Ohio and one of the top five urology departments in the United States. For the past seven years, the Glickman Urological Institute has been ranked 2nd in the nation by U.S.News & World Report.
