The Cleveland Clinic has announced a new campaign to raise funds for the construction of a $60 million, state-of-the-art building on its main campus to house the Glickman Urological Institute and new initiatives.
The new Glickman Pavilion will be located adjacent to the Clinic’s new heart center, which is presently under construction. Named after Cleveland businessman Carl D. Glickman and his wife, Babs, the Glickman Pavilion will comprise more than 200,000 square feet designed to provide for future expansion. The Glickman Urological Institute will occupy the building’s top floors together with the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension. The Pavilion will also house several new programs to be determined.
“This facility will bring together state-of-the-art technology with outstanding clinical programs designed to bring the highest level of care to our patients,” said Delos Cosgrove, M.D., the Clinic’s President and CEO. “The building will be a landmark for advances in medicine and a tremendous addition to the Clinic’s continued commitment to excellence.”
Ground is scheduled to be broken next spring. The building will include several stories and an atrium on the ground floor.
“We are proud to be able to expand the excellence of the Glickman Urological Institute as an innovative leader in patient care, education and research, and as a national and international health resource,” said Andrew C. Novick, M.D., Chairman of the institute.
For their part, Mr. and Mrs. Glickman said they “are delighted to be a part of this historic project on behalf of The Cleveland Clinic and the Glickman Urological Institute."
In October 2002, Mr. Glickman and his wife, longtime friends of The Cleveland Clinic, contributed $8 million to the Clinic’s urological institute to support its mission of worldwide excellence in patient care, teaching and research. The institute was renamed the Glickman Urological Institute of The Cleveland Clinic in recognition of the Glickmans’ generosity. Mr. Glickman currently serves as a director of Bear Stearns Companies Inc. and Lexington Corporate Properties Trust.
With a staff of more than 57 physicians and scientists on the Clinic’s main campus, The Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological Institute is recognized worldwide for excellence in patient care, teaching and research. In 2004, the institute performed 14,880 surgical procedures and recorded more than 78,011 outpatient visits.
Every year since 1990, U.S.News & World Report has ranked the Glickman Urological Institute the best in Ohio and one of the top five urology departments in the United States. For the past six years, the Glickman Urological Institute has been ranked 2nd in the nation by U.S.News & World Report.
