The specialty of cardiothoracic anesthesiology was established at Cleveland Clinic, and the Clinic's Department of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology was the first in the world. Every year, the department provides anesthesia for more than 4,000 cardiac and more than 1,000 thoracic surgical cases, as well as short and long-term care for these patients.
Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship
Cardiothoracic anesthesia offers one of the most interesting and challenging careers in anesthesiology. As a cardiothoracic surgery fellow, you will be exposed to the most advanced management of adult and congenital heart disease. The specialty of cardiothoracic anesthesia was founded at Cleveland Clinic, and we continue to lead the field.
Fifteen introductory fellowships are offered each year, along with five advanced second year fellowships, and one-year Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia fellowship.
Areas of concentration include:
- Anesthesia for congenital heart surgery
- Intensive care
- Clinical or lab research
