Dr. Steven Nissen: One of Time’s 100 Most Influential People

Heart News

May 3, 2007

In an interview with Cleveland Clinic News Service, Dr. Nissen shares his thoughts on this prestigious recognition and reflects on his career as a clinician, researcher and activist

Steven E. Nissen, MD, Chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People – an honor previously held by public figures such as Al Gore, Bill and Melinda Gates. The May 14 issue in which he is featured will be available on newsstands soon.

Dr. Nissen is well-known internationally for his coronary artery disease research and for his outspoken activism in public health and policy matters. Because he does not accept honoraria from industry – instead, directing all such payments to charity – Dr. Nissen has evolved as a credible resource for the media.

In an interview with the Cleveland Clinic News Service, Dr. Nissen reflects on how his activism evolved from his college years in the ‘70s, how passion has shaped his career, and how he’s learning from the next generation of physicians.

All are invited to a talk to Dr. Nissen during a live Web Chat scheduled on Monday, May 14.
