Weight Management: A Group Approach

Print this ContentEmail this Content

Weight reduction and maintaining weight loss are challenges for many people. For some, successful weight loss is followed by a return to old eating patterns and regaining most or all of the lost pounds.

For others, staying on a recommended diet to reach a target weight does not seem "doable." In both cases, peer support and professional assistance can make all the difference for you.

While monitoring what you eat and increasing your activity level are effective tools in losing weight, it is important to develop new lifestyle behaviors so you can maintain a healthy approach to eating.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology understands the unique combination of factors that undermine efforts to maintain a healthy approach to eating. Our Weight Management Group is designed to reduce the stress associated with dieting and help you achieve permanent weight loss.

Weight Management - A team approach

The Weight Management Group is conducted by clinicians in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, with support provided by licensed, registered dietitians in the Department of Nutrition Therapy. This multidisciplinary team approach recognizes the interaction of three critical elements in weight management: making healthy food choices, the role of food in your life and your eating behaviors.

How to participate

The first step is to schedule an assessment. Together, you and our clinical team will decide if the group is right for you.

You may join the group at any time. Supervision by a medical doctor during your participation in the group is expected, as is regular group attendance.

For more information

Please call the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology (216) 444-6115 or (800) 223-2273 ext. 46115 to schedule an assessment and to receive more information about the group. The Weight Management Group may be covered by your health insurance. Our financial counselors can help you review your insurance policy coverage.
