Thank you, Mother Nature. Adopting a wintry theme for a gala is always iffy in Palm Beach. It’s tough for folks to believe they’ve stepped into a winter wonderland when the ladies are sleeveless and the men are sockless. But when a cold front rumbles in and drops temperatures into the fur-wearing zone, suspension of disbelief is a whole lot easier.

Life provides real snapshot moments cherished memories we’ll never forget. For Palm Beacher Sydell Miller, one such moment occurred Sept. 12, 2008. She was in Cleveland, her hometown, for a dedication ceremony at Cleveland Clinic, the renowned not-for-profit academic medical center.

So when a gala opts to use a geographic theme for its big event, every visual detail of A Night in a Fancy Faraway Place had better be authentic. The Cleveland Clinic went one better. Not only did its A Night in Casablanca have the look of the real thing, it also had the scents and the sounds.
