Medina General Hospital joins Cleveland Clinic Health System
In April, Cleveland Clinic and Medina General Hospital officials signed an affiliation agreement that will close later this year.
When the affiliation is complete, Cleveland Clinic and Medina General Hospital will commit to capital investments expected to total $40 million, which will go through Cleveland Clinic capital review processes, to support a multi-year strategic plan to strengthen the hospital. The Cleveland Clinic also will make a $10 million investment in the Medina General Hospital Foundation, which will be used over time to support Medina General Hospital programs and services. In the interim, Cleveland Clinic will provide key executives to Medina General Hospital, which will include bringing in a new hospital president, Robert P. Stall, to replace Gary Hallman who is retiring. At the conclusion of the affiliation, the Medina General Hospital Board will continue to be led by local Medina community members.
“We welcome Medina General Hospital to the Cleveland Clinic and we look forward to working together to enhance and develop unsurpassed healthcare in Medina County,” says Fred DeGrandis, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cleveland Clinic Community Hospitals. “We are committed to this relationship and we believe it is vital to this community to develop a richer foundation by investing in services and programs that are needed right here in Medina County.”
Medina General Hospital will join Cleveland Clinic’s eight other community hospitals in Northeast Ohio. It will operate under a management agreement until the affiliation is concluded.
“This is a monumental day in the history of Medina General Hospital,” says Charles Coleman Jr., Medina General Hospital, Chairman of the Board. “By becoming a part of Cleveland Clinic, it will help ensure the future of Medina General Hospital and bring new resources to Medina County. I would also like to thank Gary Hallman for his leadership and dedication of nearly 21 years to Medina General Hospital and this community.”
