Enthusiasm Runs High for Florida Health and Wellness Center’s New Home
Enthusiasm for high-quality healthcare has reached new heights both literally and figuratively in West Palm Beach. Opening on the 14th floor of CityPlace Tower at the beginning of November, the Cleveland Clinic Florida Health and Wellness Center has been earning raves from residents ever since.
“On our opening day in our permanent space, we immediately tripled our patient volume, and our visits and calls continue to increase each week,” says Bernardo B. Fernandez, Jr., MD, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Florida. “We are thrilled with the interest and support from the community.”
Impressive Care
Robert A. Garvy, a Cleveland Clinic patient since 2005, says he’s impressed with the level of care he received in Cleveland as well as at the Weston, Fla., campus. “The new facility here in West Palm Beach is a treatment advance for Florida residents,” he says.
Mr. Garvy is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of INTECH, an institutional investment firm with new corporate offices upstairs from the Health and Wellness Center in CityPlace Tower. He and his family have supported research efforts in Cleveland and the new heart program at the Cleveland Clinic Florida Health and Wellness Center.
“My wife Carol and I know that as a nonprofit medical organization, Cleveland Clinic relies a great deal on philanthropy,” he says. “We want to help get the new center started in our community.”
Mr. and Mrs. Garvy are members of the Cleveland Clinic Florida Health and Wellness Center Leadership Board, and Mrs. Garvy is a member of the committee for BREAKTHROUGH!, the inaugural gala in Palm Beach taking place in February to support the center’s programs.
Expanded Services
The expanded services of the Health and Wellness Center include an on-site dedicated diagnostic imaging area complete with digital mammography, bone density, ultrasound, MRI, CT scan and general x-ray services. Physicians representing six medical specialties (internal medicine, cardiology, colorectal surgery, gynecology, neurology and urology) permanently staff the center. Additional specialties are represented by physicians rotating from the Weston campus.
“We have a great team of physicians working together to provide patients with the most comprehensive approach to their diagnosis and treatment,” says Laurence Beck, MD, internist and physician leader for the practice. “As we grow, we will look to continue to fill the needs of patients in our new community.”
Making a Difference
The Health and Wellness Center occupies 16,000 square feet, and fundraising is under way to build out the remaining 8,000 square feet on CityPlace Tower’s 14th floor. The recently launched Palm Beach Founders Society, a group of benefactors committed to helping build expert medical programs in the community, already has made a significant difference in the Health and Wellness Center’s ability to provide the latest in technology and care.
