Umberto Fedeli leads annual Children’s Hospital event to great success

June 2010

The 20th Annual HeartThrob Ball was a smashing success, drawing more than 1,100 people and raising a record-breaking $825,000 on behalf of the patients, research and innovations at Cleveland Clinic’s Children’s Hospital.

In the view of Elaine Wyllie, MD, a lion’s share of the credit should go to Honorary Chairman Umberto P. Fedeli. “Mr. Fedeli is a master of influence who makes things happen,” says Dr. Wyllie, Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Pediatric Neurology and the wife of Robert Wyllie, MD, Chairman of the Pediatric Institute and Physician-in-Chief of the Children’s Hospital.

“Mr. Fedeli brings passion, integrity and commitment to everything he does,” says Dr. Robert Wyllie.  “We are delighted to have a man of his international stature working with us for the benefit of children who face serious health challenges.”

Fedeli

Mr. Umberto P. Fedeli

Mr. Fedeli, President and CEO of the insurance brokerage firm the Fedeli Group, has long been a powerful advocate for Cleveland Clinic. He serves as Vice Chair of the Today’s Innovations, Tomorrow’s Healthcare campaign, sits on Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Directors and serves as its Chairman of Government Relations. His extensive service to Cleveland Clinic earned him the 2009 Outstanding Volunteer Award on National Philanthropy Day. But it’s his genuine compassion for children that comes through loud and clear in his work for the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. Parents of five, Mr. Fedeli and his wife, Maryellen, have hosted events in their home to raise money for Children’s Hospital programs.

Mr. Fedeli contributes much of his time and energy to a variety of civic and charitable causes, many of which touch the lives of children. “A great humanitarian and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize once told me that every tear you wipe off a child’s face is a star you light up in the sky," he says.

“Mr. Fedeli shows us every day what community service and philanthropy are all about,” Dr. Robert Wyllie says. “We are fortunate to have him in our community, helping to provide services for children in need.”

The 20th Annual HeartThrob Ball, presented by PNC Bank, took place in April and featured music by the Beach Boys. Among the highlights was a special Courage Awards ceremony honoring past and present patients of the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. Next year’s HeartThrob Ball is planned for April 29, 2011, and will feature the Pointer Sisters.
