Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Section offers a variety of diagnostic and treatment options to help patients with heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias). Arrhythmias are conditions that cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly, resulting in a wide range of symptoms including a fluttering or racing heart beat, dizziness, light-headedness, fainting, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, and even sudden death.
The conditions are classified according to the speed of the heart rate as well as in which part of the heart they develop. Doctors may refer to an arrhythmia as atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, or bradycardia.
Following a collaborative model of medicine, the section unites cardiac electrophysiologists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and imaging specialists to provide patients with coordinated diagnostic capabilities and highly specialized comprehensive treatment options, including the latest medications and leading-edge technologies, such as non-surgical catheter-based ablation therapies, magnetically driven navigational procedures and cardioversion.
Cleveland Clinic Florida’s electrophysiologists have conducted close to 1,000 procedures since 2010, such as cardioversions, pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, lead extractions and catheter ablations. Our team is nationally recognized and specifically trained in complex cardiac ablation, including ablation of ventricular tachycardia and pulmonary vein isolation procedures for atrial fibrillation.
Cleveland Clinic's health network has the largest and premier electronically integrated device follow-up system in the world, linking the patient, device and doctors together. Patients with pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices are quickly notified of the status of their device through the use of the MyChart®, Cleveland Clinic’s electronic medical record system.
