Strategies and Concepts: Communication, Socialization and Autism

The workshop will provide the skills needed to facilitate socialization, communication, class participation, independence and daily living skills using Applied Behavioral Analysis strategies. Data collection methods will be outlined. Participants will be actively involved in discussion, role-play of scenarios and interactive video-observation.

This one-day workshop is designed to provide strategies for parents and professionals to utilize when teaching children of all ages to acquire functional and appropriate play/leisure skills. Discussions will incorporate ways to make play/leisure an enjoyable part of daily living. Strategies for embedding Applied Behavioral Analysis principles in the following will be addressed:

  • Age-appropriate activities
  • Understanding the differences between special interests and play/leisure skills
  • Going out into the community
  • Planning for a peer visit

This two-day workshop introduces the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Target audience includes classroom teachers, special education teachers, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, paraprofessionals, principals, counselors, parents and all other personnel who have direct contact with a child with autism.

  • Overview and history of ABA
