Biographical Sketch

Valerie E. Kalinowski, M.D., M.H.A., is Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Staff Physician in Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Kalinowski is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine. In addition, she holds certifications in advanced trauma life support and pediatric advanced life support.  She earned her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed a Master’s of Health Administration at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health.  Her post-graduate training includes a pediatric residency at University of California-San Diego and a pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Dr. Kalinowski is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association.

In addition to her clinical appointment, Dr. Kalinowski also serves on several committees, including the Pediatric Institute’s Oversight Committee, Hand Hygiene Committee, and the Pediatric Infection Control Committee. She also currently serves as Co-chair of the Pediatric Critical Response Committee and Medical Director of Pediatric Respiratory Therapy.

Her specialty interests include ARDS, heart failure, congenital heart disease, transplant medicine, and transport of the critically ill child.
