Program Descriptions
Internship:
An internship is a minimum of one quarter, semester or summer term and is a paid or unpaid assignment to a department or institute at Cleveland Clinic. Undergraduate students acquire practical experience in a healthcare profession that aligns with their goals.
Externship:
An externship, also known as job shadowing, is an unpaid opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to engage in practice-based learning in a field of interest. Externships are similar to internships, but are generally of a much shorter duration; ranging from three days to several weeks.
Co-op:
A co-op is a paid or unpaid academic opportunity for undergraduate students that alternates full-time classroom study with full time practical experience in a position related to the student’s major. Students should inquire with their college or university to determine whether or not it is possible to obtain academic credit for co-ops.
Fellowship:
A fellowship is a paid or unpaid opportunity that occurs when an academic institution allows graduate students the opportunity to seek a supervised experience working in their field of study. Fellowships are sometimes a required part of the academic curriculum.
