Dr. Akbar Abbass, MD, FRCPC, is an anesthesiologist in the Gastroenterology Department at Cleveland Clinic Canada. Dr. Abbass is also a staff physician in the Department of Anesthesia at St. Joseph’s Health Centre and is a Lecturer for the Department of Anesthesia in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Abbass grew up in Switzerland and Bahrain. Dr. Abbass later moved to Canada and completed his Bachelor of Sciences (Honours) degree at the University of Toronto with High Distinction. Dr. Abbass went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Abbass continued his medical training, specializing in anesthesiology at the University of Toronto and completed his Regional Anesthesia Fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital.

In honour of his medical and professional acumen, Dr. Abbass received the “My St. Joe’s Circle” Award from St. Joseph’s Health Centre for excellence in patient care.

In his free time, Dr. Abbass likes to practice Ashtanga yoga, travel and enjoys photography. Dr. Abbass is fluent in English, French, and Urdu.
