Sonya J. Abdulla, MD, is a dermatologist at Cleveland Clinic Canada. Dr. Abdulla is a leading provider of specialized medical and aesthetic dermatology services with numerous national and provincial contributions to the field of dermatology, including working with the Canadian Dermatology Association and the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario. In her role, Dr. Abdulla provides general and aesthetic dermatological preventive care and treatments for patients in the Executive Health Program, and the entire family. Dr. Abdulla is a member of the Canadian Dermatology Association, American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association.
Dr. Abdulla was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, and graduated with the highest honours from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Kinetics. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Abdulla completed a Master of Science degree at the University of Saskatchewan; her thesis work was centered on the evaluation of an intensive multifactorial community-based intervention for Type 2 Diabetes. Upon concluding graduate school, Dr. Abdulla returned to the capital city of Canada and earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Ottawa, earning the Dr. André Peloquin Award for excellence in patient care. Dr. Abdulla pursued her internship and residency in dermatology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, during which she served as Chief Dermatology Resident. Dr. Abdulla was awarded her Dermatology Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is completing additional subspecialty training with a Fellowship in Dermatologic Laser Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Abdulla is a published author with articles featured in peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals such as Journal of Cutaneous Medicine & Surgery, and Medical Education. Dr. Abdulla has also made multiple appearances at numerous conferences and symposiums, recommending treatments for skin care issues, on local, national and international platforms. She has previously received a prestigious research grant from the Canadian Dermatology Foundation.
For her patients, Dr. Abdulla works in collaboration with an expert team of dermatologists at Cleveland Clinic Canada and treats a variety of skin issues such as moles, skin cancer, acne, scars, wrinkles, ingrown nails, fungal and bacterial infections, spider and varicose veins, and cysts.
