Good health starts from within. Be proactive with early detection of common colon-related conditions, such as polyps, colitis or irritable bowel.

Recognizing that colorectal cancer is now the second leading cause of cancer death in Canada*, our Colorectal Cancer Risk Reduction Program uniquely integrates specialists from gastroenterology, nutrition and exercise physiology to address the behaviours that contribute to risk. We will perform a baseline colonoscopy, identify your risk and educate you on how to lessen your risk factors.

The Colorectal Cancer Risk Reduction Program addresses the lifestyle and behaviour factors that can lead to colorectal cancer. Typically, 10-15% of our clients will have a polyp at the time of their colonoscopy. Polyp detection through a colonoscopy is a practical way to reduce risk as there are no early warning signs or symptoms. Polyps can turn into cancer; once detected, they are easily removed and biopsied for classification as either non-cancerous or benign (pre-cancerous or cancerous).

Our board-certified gastroenterologist and colorectal surgeon will initiate your colonoscopy testing and should the findings require surgical attention, we will refer you as appropriate. You’ll meet with our registered dietitian to create a food program that enhances your health, controls your weight and improves your energy and work with our exercise physiologist who will prescribe a physical activity plan relevant to your interests, resources and goals.

The Colorectal Risk Reduction Program includes:

  • An overall assessment of your condition
  • An individual behaviour and lifestyle assessment program
    • Sessions with our registered dietitian
    • Sessions with our exercise physiologist
