About Our Respiratory Therapy Section

  • The Respiratory Therapy department works directly with the perioperative critical care physicians in the Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute and in the Cleveland Clinic main hospital.
  • The department utilizes patient-driven, evidence-based protocols in the therapeutic treatment, post-operative ventilator care and weaning of patients.
  • The department serves high-acuity patients requiring ECMO, ventricular assist devices and total artificial hearts.
  • Department members work in a:
    • 55 bed Cardiovascular ICU (76 beds in 2008)
    • 105 bed Cardiac nursing floor (200+ in 2008)
    • 18 bed Surgical ICU (45 in 2008)
    • 14 bed ICU expansion (admits surgical, neuro, medical, cardiology, and vascular patients)
    • 36 bed PACU (62 in 2008)
    • 12 bed hospital transfer unit (opening September 2006)
    • Cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs
    • Cardiac, thoracic and general operating rooms
