Cleveland Clinic Celebrates Opening of New Marymount Surgery Center

New Center Features Larger Operating Rooms and State-of-the-Art Technology

March 9, 2012

Cleveland Clinic is celebrating the opening of the new Surgery Center and entranceway at Marymount Hospital.

The three-story, 45,000-square-foot addition features seven operating rooms, which are 50 percent larger to allow for the use of state-of-the-art technologies.  In addition to the new OR’s there will be one minor procedure room.  The new center will begin serving patients in late March.

In addition to the new Surgery Center, the Marymount expansion features a new entranceway and surgical waiting area.

“The new surgery center will make things more convenient, accessible and comfortable for our patients,” said Joanne Zeroske, President and CEO of Marymount Hospital. “Every detail of the new space was chosen to improve patient care.”

The new areas feature open spaces with large windows to provide natural light and straight corridors to make it easy for patients to get around.

“Evidence-based research shows that everything in a care-giving environment affects healing,” said Pete Flauto, Director of Perioperative Service. “That is why we focused on making everything from our waiting rooms to the recovery areas more inviting for patients.”

The surgery center offers the following surgical services:

  • Endoscopy
  • Ear, Nose and Throat
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecologic
  • Neurological
  • Oral/Dental
  • Orthopaedic
  • Pain Management
  • Plastic and Cosmetic
  • Podiatric
  • Urologic
  • Vascular

The 45,000-square-foot addition was the first phase of the Cleveland Clinic’s Marymount construction project. Phase II of the Surgery Center project will renovate 29,000 square feet of existing space. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2013, will provide new pre-operative and post-operative rooms, a new PACU, a new endoscopy department and a new bronchoscopy room.

Marymount Hospital officials are applying for LEED® Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the project.
