Cleveland Clinic Named an Energy Star Partner of the Year for the Second Year in a Row
Award from the U.S. EPA and Department of Energy Program Recognizes Leadership in Energy Management
March 1, 2012
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy have named Cleveland Clinic an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the second year in a row.
The ENERGY STAR program promotes energy efficiency practices that protect the environment through intelligent product design and practices.
“Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to managing our energy use in partnership with ENERGY STAR has paid big dividends,” said Bill Peacock, Cleveland Clinic’s Chief of Operations. “Making our buildings more energy efficient is one of the most effective ways for us to reduce carbon emissions and save money. We are honored to have received this award.”
With a focus on ongoing performance measurement and whole-building improvement, EPA’s ENERGY STAR program provides a proven energy management strategy that has helped Cleveland Clinic achieve important reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
Key accomplishments of Cleveland Clinic’s award winning energy management program include:
- Enhanced management practices ranging from performance assessment to celebration of achievements
- Organization-wide improvements including using tools such as comparative energy performance reports
- Promoting and communicating success through internal communications and employee engagement, such as participation in EPA ENERGY STAR’s Battle of the Buildings
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ENERGY STAR program, EPA is proud to recognize Cleveland Clinic with the 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “Cleveland Clinic and all our ENERGY STAR award winners are improving the energy efficiency of the places where we work, play and learn, which is good for our climate, the health of our economy, and our future.”
EPA’s annual ENERGY STAR Awards honor organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency. The award winners are selected from about 20,000 partners that participate in the ENERGY STAR program and will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on March 15.
Over the past 20 years, American families and businesses have saved nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to those from more than 350 million vehicles with help from ENERGY STAR.
