Cleveland Clinic's South Pointe Hospital Awarded National Nursing Excellence Designation
December 21, 2012
Cleveland Clinic’s South Pointe Hospital has achieved the Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, becoming just the second hospital in the state of Ohio to receive the distinction.
“The Pathway to Excellence designation confirms that South Pointe Hospital is dedicated to nurses and to valuing nurses’ contributions,” said Sheila Miller, MBA, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer of South Pointe Hospital. “We’re honored to receive this distinction, which also demonstrates the level of professional satisfaction of nurses at South Pointe Hospital.”
South Pointe Hospital earned the Pathway to Excellence honor after successfully undergoing a thorough review process that documented foundational quality initiatives in creating a positive work environment. Cleveland Clinic’s Lakewood Hospital is the only other Ohio hospital to receive the distinction, earning it in 2010.
“Cleveland Clinic is committed to nurses and advancing the nursing profession,” said K. Kelly Hancock, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Executive Chief Nursing Officer of Cleveland Clinic’s Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute for Nursing Excellence. “Our nurses at South Pointe Hospital provide the high level of care and compassion that is at the core of our mission. South Pointe Hospital’s status as a Pathway to Excellence center is a further reflection of those values.”
South Pointe Hospital, one of Cleveland Clinic’s eight community hospitals, is a 173-bed acute care, community teaching hospital serving the health care needs of Cleveland’s southeast suburbs since 1957. By combining the talents of highly qualified physicians, nurses and staff, South Pointe Hospital delivers a patient-centered model of care. Earlier this year, Cleveland Clinic and Ohio University and its Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine announced an affiliation agreement to house a Northeast Ohio regional extension campus at South Pointe Hospital, which is one of the largest osteopathic teaching hospitals in the state.
“South Pointe Hospital has long been dedicated to creating an environment in which our nurses, and all of our caregivers, have the support they need to focus on the care of our patients,” said Brian Harte, MD, President of South Pointe Hospital. “Our nurses are to be commended for their dedication to patient care and their profession.”
The American Nurses Credentialing Center is the world's largest nurse credentialing organization, and is a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.
