Joint Commission Names Marymount Hospital Top Performer on Key Quality Measures

First-Time Honoree Marymount Hospital is Only Hospital Serving Cuyahoga and Summit Counties to Earn Recognition This Year

September 28, 2012

Cleveland Clinic’s Marymount Hospital has been recognized by the Joint Commission as a “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.” Marymount earned the designation based on performance related to four accountability measures: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

This is the first time Marymount Hospital has earned the distinction and it is the only hospital serving both Cuyahoga and Summit counties to be recognized this year.

“We are dedicated to quality and continuous improvement, and this recognition is a testament of that commitment,” said Joanne Zeroske, BSN, President, Marymount Hospital. “Marymount caregivers collaborated and communicated effectively at all levels throughout this process. This honor is truly a team success.”

The Top Performers on Key Quality Measures program recognizes Joint Commission-accredited hospitals for attaining excellence in accountability measure performance. In total, 18 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals were named Top Performers in 2012. The Joint Commission defines accountability measures as “evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes” as they relate to: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, venous thromboembolism (VTE) and stroke.

In March, Marymount Hospital opened its new Surgery Center and entranceway. The three-story, 45,000-square-foot addition features seven operating rooms, which are 50 percent larger to allow for the use of state-of-the-art technologies, plus a new entranceway and surgical waiting area. The second phase of the Surgery Center project, will renovate 29,000 square feet of existing space. Scheduled to be completed in 2013, the project will provide new pre- and post-operative rooms, a new post-anesthesia care unit, a new endoscopy department and a new bronchoscopy room.
