David Bronson MD FACP to be Named President-Elect of American College of Physicians

David Bronson, MD, FACP, President of Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals, will be named President-elect of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the nation’s largest medical-specialty organization.

The American College of Physicians’ Board of Regents and Board of Governors elected Dr. Bronson last month. He will become President-Elect effective at the conclusion of ACP’s Annual Business Meeting April 9 in San Diego. Dr. Bronson will become President of the organization in April 2012.

ACP is a national organization of internists — physicians who specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illnesses in adults. ACP is the second-largest physician group in the United States. Its membership of 130,000 includes internists, internal medicine subspecialists, medical students, residents and fellows.

Dr. Bronson leads Cleveland Clinic’s nine community hospitals in northeast Ohio. As Cleveland Clinic integrates its health system, Dr. Bronson is working to emphasize quality, safety and comprehensive care for patients. He is helping drive efficiencies across the enterprise, which includes Euclid, Fairview, Hillcrest, Huron, Lakewood, Lutheran, Marymount, Medina and South Pointe hospitals, and affiliate Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Dr. Bronson has served on Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Governors, Board of Trustees and the Executive Management Team. He also is Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He is a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission and is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Medical Group Association. He joined Cleveland Clinic in 1992 and led the Clinic’s multi-site regional practices, including operations in Canada, from 1995-2008. Dr. Bronson received his medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed residencies in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Vermont, where he was chief resident.
