Among Cleveland Clinic’s highly ranked programs, eight placed in the Top 5 and four – heart, gastroenterology, urology, and rheumatology – placed among the Top 2. Cleveland Clinic earned the highest ranking of any Ohio hospital in 15 categories.

Since 1994, no hospital in the country has ranked higher than Cleveland Clinic in cardiac care.

“It’s truly a great honor to be ranked No. 1 in the country for 16 straight years,” said Bruce Lytle, M.D., chairman, Cleveland Clinic Heart & Vascular Institute. “We are inspired every day by the trust and confidence that our patients place in us to deliver the best care possible and to offer patients with the most complex problems the best possible choices.”

Cleveland Clinic’s cancer care moved up three spots this year to No. 9 in the country, due in part to the recruitment of the top clinicians and researchers in the world, publishing clinical outcomes, and focusing on comprehensive patient support programs.

"It is an honor for the entire Taussig team to be recognized as one of the top 10 cancer centers in the nation, but more importantly, it is good news for patients in the region to have easy access to world-class care,” said Derek Raghavan, M.D., Ph.D., chairman, Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. “Along with our research reputation and publications on cancer advancements, these rankings are an important measure of the quality of our care."

Two additional Cleveland Clinic hospitals were ranked on the prestigious list this year:

  • Cleveland Clinic Florida: gastroenterology 17, diabetes and endocrinology 40.
  • Lutheran Hospital: neurology and neurosurgery 42.

Thousands of hospitals were assessed by U.S. News. Only 152 scored high enough to be ranked in even one category. Of those, just 14 - including Cleveland Clinic - qualified for the Honor Roll. Rankings are based on death rates, procedure volume, and the balance of nurses and patients, except in four specialties – ophthalmology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, and rheumatology – in which hospitals were ranked on reputation alone.

“2010-11 Best Hospitals” will be available on Thursday, July 15, at www.usnews.com/besthospitals and in the August edition of U.S. News, on newsstands July 27.
